Add string.h if necessary to define strlen, etc.
Add stdlib.h if present & necessary for malloc definition. (otherwise
define ourselves) - based on other code present.
Change ifdef POSIX to ifdef HAS_STDLIB_H
Check for stdlib.h in configure.in
