selftest: use MALLOC_CHECK_=3 to give a diagnostic on failure
With MALLOC_CHECK_ set to 2 in case of a failure abort() is called
silently which hopefully creates a core dump.
MALLOC_CHECK_=3 additionally gives an error message on stderr in case.
