Delete a user

To delete a user account from your computer:

When in the Activities overview, Type to search users and groups. This will open the Users Administration Tool.

Select the user you wish to delete from the list on the left.

Click Delete. You will be prompted for your password. Enter it and click Authenticate.

You will be asked if you wish to remove the user's home folder. Select on of the following 3 options:

Keep Files

The home directory of the user will not be deleted.

Don't Remove Account

Cancels the removal request.

Delete Files

Files owned by user can be completely removed if you don't need them anymore.

You may want to back them up before deleting the account, or keep them so that an administrator can save them later.

Delete a group

To delete a group from your computer:

When in the Activities overview, Type to search users and groups. This will open the Users Administration Tool.

Click Manage Groups.

Scroll through the list to select the group you wish to remove.

Click Delete.

You will be prompted to authenticate using a password.

Deleting a group may leave files with an unassigned group ID in the filesystem. In the event that this does happen, files belonging the removed group will not have a group name but a group ID number instead. Generally this will not cause you any problems.

After the warning, click Delete.
