This DMA controller can be found integrated on the AT32AP7000 chip and is primarily meant for peripheral DMA transfer, but can also be used for memory-to-memory transfers. This patch is based on a driver from David Brownell which was based on an older version of the DMA Engine framework. It also implements the proposed extensions to the DMA Engine API for slave DMA operations. The dmatest client shows no problems, but there may still be room for improvement performance-wise. DMA slave transfer performance is definitely "good enough"; reading 100 MiB from an SD card running at ~20 MHz yields ~7.2 MiB/s average transfer rate. Full documentation for this controller can be found in the Synopsys DW AHB DMAC Databook: http://www.synopsys.com/designware/docs/iip/DW_ahb_dmac/latest/doc/dw_ahb_dmac_db.pdf The controller has lots of implementation options, so it's usually a good idea to check the data sheet of the chip it's intergrated on as well. The AT32AP7000 data sheet can be found here: http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/datasheets.asp?family_id=682 Changes since v4: * Use client_count instead of dma_chan_is_in_use() * Add missing include * Unmap buffers unless client told us not to Changes since v3: * Update to latest DMA engine and DMA slave APIs * Embed the hw descriptor into the sw descriptor * Clean up and update MODULE_DESCRIPTION, copyright date, etc. Changes since v2: * Dequeue all pending transfers in terminate_all() * Rename dw_dmac.h -> dw_dmac_regs.h * Define and use controller-specific dma_slave data * Fix up a few outdated comments * Define hardware registers as structs (doesn't generate better code, unfortunately, but it looks nicer.) * Get number of channels from platform_data instead of hardcoding it based on CONFIG_WHATEVER_CPU. * Give slave clients exclusive access to the channel Acked-by: Maciej Sosnowski , Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen Signed-off-by: Dan Williams --- arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c | 27 ++++++++++++++------------- 1 file changed, 14 insertions(+), 13 deletions(-) (limited to 'arch/avr32') diff --git a/arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c b/arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c index 0f24b4f85c1..892e27e0d58 100644 --- a/arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c +++ b/arch/avr32/mach-at32ap/at32ap700x.c @@ -7,6 +7,7 @@ */ #include #include +#include #include #include #include @@ -599,6 +600,17 @@ static void __init genclk_init_parent(struct clk *clk) clk->parent = parent; } +static struct dw_dma_platform_data dw_dmac0_data = { + .nr_channels = 3, +}; + +static struct resource dw_dmac0_resource[] = { + PBMEM(0xff200000), + IRQ(2), +}; +DEFINE_DEV_DATA(dw_dmac, 0); +DEV_CLK(hclk, dw_dmac0, hsb, 10); + /* -------------------------------------------------------------------- * System peripherals * -------------------------------------------------------------------- */ @@ -705,17 +717,6 @@ static struct clk pico_clk = { .users = 1, }; -static struct resource dmaca0_resource[] = { - { - .start = 0xff200000, - .end = 0xff20ffff, - .flags = IORESOURCE_MEM, - }, - IRQ(2), -}; -DEFINE_DEV(dmaca, 0); -DEV_CLK(hclk, dmaca0, hsb, 10); - /* -------------------------------------------------------------------- * HMATRIX * -------------------------------------------------------------------- */ @@ -828,7 +829,7 @@ void __init at32_add_system_devices(void) platform_device_register(&at32_eic0_device); platform_device_register(&smc0_device); platform_device_register(&pdc_device); - platform_device_register(&dmaca0_device); + platform_device_register(&dw_dmac0_device); platform_device_register(&at32_tcb0_device); platform_device_register(&at32_tcb1_device); @@ -1891,7 +1892,7 @@ struct clk *at32_clock_list[] = { &smc0_mck, &pdc_hclk, &pdc_pclk, - &dmaca0_hclk, + &dw_dmac0_hclk, &pico_clk, &pio0_mck, &pio1_mck, -- cgit From 8b95d9172be7146c87e7a998310ce2919c851adc Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Heiko Carstens Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2008 23:32:32 +0200 Subject: fix core/stacktrace changes on avr32, mips, sh Fixes this type of problem: CC arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.o arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:84: warning: data definition has no type or storage class arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:84: warning: type defaults to 'int' in declaration of 'EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL' arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:84: warning: parameter names (without types) in function declaration arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:97: warning: data definition has no type or storage class arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:97: warning: type defaults to 'int' in declaration of 'EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL' arch/s390/kernel/stacktrace.c:97: warning: parameter names (without types) in function declaration caused by "stacktrace: export save_stack_trace[_tsk]" Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens Cc: Stephen Rothwell Cc: Linus Torvalds Cc: Andrew Morton Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar --- arch/avr32/kernel/stacktrace.c | 1 + 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+) (limited to 'arch/avr32') diff --git a/arch/avr32/kernel/stacktrace.c b/arch/avr32/kernel/stacktrace.c index f4bdb448049..c09f0d8dd67 100644 --- a/arch/avr32/kernel/stacktrace.c +++ b/arch/avr32/kernel/stacktrace.c @@ -10,6 +10,7 @@ #include #include #include +#include register unsigned long current_frame_pointer asm("r7"); -- cgit From b8f8c3cf0a4ac0632ec3f0e15e9dc0c29de917af Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Thomas Gleixner Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2008 17:27:28 +0200 Subject: nohz: prevent tick stop outside of the idle loop Jack Ren and Eric Miao tracked down the following long standing problem in the NOHZ code: scheduler switch to idle task enable interrupts Window starts here ----> interrupt happens (does not set NEED_RESCHED) irq_exit() stops the tick ----> interrupt happens (does set NEED_RESCHED) return from schedule() cpu_idle(): preempt_disable(); Window ends here The interrupts can happen at any point inside the race window. The first interrupt stops the tick, the second one causes the scheduler to rerun and switch away from idle again and we end up with the tick disabled. The fact that it needs two interrupts where the first one does not set NEED_RESCHED and the second one does made the bug obscure and extremly hard to reproduce and analyse. Kudos to Jack and Eric. Solution: Limit the NOHZ functionality to the idle loop to make sure that we can not run into such a situation ever again. cpu_idle() { preempt_disable(); while(1) { tick_nohz_stop_sched_tick(1); <- tell NOHZ code that we are in the idle loop while (!need_resched()) halt(); tick_nohz_restart_sched_tick(); <- disables NOHZ mode preempt_enable_no_resched(); schedule(); preempt_disable(); } } In hindsight we should have done this forever, but ... /me grabs a large brown paperbag. For example: u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size); always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB. The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for example): #define PAGE_SHIFT 12 #define PAGE_SIZE (_AC(1,UL) << PAGE_SHIFT) #define PAGE_MASK (~(PAGE_SIZE-1)) ... #define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK) The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary. Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses typeof(addr) for the mask. Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in include/linux/mm.h. N+(ngpio - 1) GPIOs claimed by kernel code may be exported by its owner using a new gpio_export() call, which should be most useful for driver debugging. Such exports may optionally be done without a "direction" attribute. Userspace may ask to take over a GPIO by writing to a sysfs control file, helping to cope with incomplete board support or other "one-off" requirements that don't merit full kernel support: echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/export ... will gpio_request(23, "sysfs") and gpio_export(23); use /sys/class/gpio/gpio-23/direction to (re)configure it, when that GPIO can be used as both input and output. echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/unexport ... will gpio_free(23), when it was exported as above The extra D-space footprint is a few hundred bytes, except for the sysfs resources associated with each exported GPIO. The additional I-space footprint is about two thirds of the current size of gpiolib (!). Since no /dev node creation is involved, no "udev" support is needed. Related changes: * This adds a device pointer to "struct gpio_chip". When GPIO providers initialize that, sysfs gpio class devices become children of that device instead of being "virtual" devices. * The (few) gpio_chip providers which have such a device node have been updated. * Some gpio_chip drivers also needed to update their module "owner" field ... for which missing kerneldoc was added. * Some gpio_chips don't support input GPIOs. Those GPIOs are now flagged appropriately when the chip is registered. Based on previous patches, and discussion both on and off LKML. A Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-gpio update is ready to submit once this merges to mainline. The archtitecture code does still need to implement the gpiolib accessor functions in its asm/gpio.h file. This patch adds the implementations for x86 and PPC. With these changes it is possible to run generic GPIO expansion cards on every architecture that implements the trivial wrapper functions. Support for more architectures can easily be added.
