Following the deprecation schedule the a.out ELF interpreter support
is removed now with this patch. a.out ELF interpreters were an transition
feature for moving a.out systems to ELF, but they're unlikely to be still
needed. Pure a.out systems will still work of course. This allows to
simplify the hairy ELF loader.

Over two years ago, the Linux USB developers stated that they believed
there was no way to create a USB kernel driver that was not under the
GPL. This patch moves the USB apis to enforce that decision.
There are no known closed source USB drivers in the wild, so this patch
should cause no problems.

This patch adds support for new firmware.
Old firmware is still supported until July 2008.
To get new firmware, go to
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/opensourcecode/wrt150nv11/1.51.3/
and download the tarball. We don't have a smaller tarball, yet.
That will be fixed later.
You can extract firmware out of the "wl_ap.o" file contained
in this tarball using latest fwcutter. You must pass the option
--unsupported to fwcutter.
Fwcutter-010 with official support for a new firmware image will
be released soon.

This makes the new PID TX rate control algorithm the default instead of the
rc80211_simple rate control algorithm. The simple algorithm was flawed in
several ways: it wasn't responsive at all and didn't age the information it was
relying on properly. The PID algorithm allows us to tune characteristics such
as responsiveness by adjusting parameters and was found to generally behave
better.
The default algorithm can be overridden to select simple instead. Which
ever algorithm is the default is included as part of the mac80211
module automatically. The other algorithm (simple vs. pid) can
be selected for inclusion as well. If EMBEDDED is selected then
the choice is available to have no default specified and neither
algorithm included in mac80211. The default algorithm can be set
through a modparam.
While at it, mark rc80211-simple as deprecated, and schedule it
for removal.

After adding checking to register_sysctl_table and finding a whole new set
of bugs. Missed by countless code reviews and testers I have finally lost
patience with the binary sysctl interface.
The binary sysctl interface has been sort of deprecated for years and
finding a user space program that uses the syscall is more difficult then
finding a needle in a haystack. Problems continue to crop up, with the in
kernel implementation. So since supporting something that no one uses is
silly, deprecate sys_sysctl with a sufficient grace period and notice that
the handful of user space applications that care can be fixed or replaced.
The /proc/sys sysctl interface that people use will continue to be
supported indefinitely.
This patch moves the tested warning about sysctls from the path where
sys_sysctl to a separate path called from both implementations of
sys_sysctl, and it adds a proper entry into
Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.
Allowing us to revisit this in a couple years time and actually kill
sys_sysctl.

The Linux ELF loader is quite complicated and messy code (that could
probably need a rewrite, but that's a different chapter). One particular
messy part in it is the support for non ELF a.out ld.sos. This was
originally added to make transition from a.out to ELF easier because an
a.out ELF ld.so could be still build using an older a.out toolkit. But by
now that should be fully obsolete and removing it would clean up
binfmt_elf.c up a bit.
I propose to deprecate this support and remove for 2.6.25.
Drawback is that someone still runs their system with a.out ld.so
they would need to update the ld.so when updating to a new kernel.
This patch just adds an entry to the deprecation file and a printk
warning users.

Change ->fault prototype. We now return an int, which contains
VM_FAULT_xxx code in the low byte, and FAULT_RET_xxx code in the next byte.
FAULT_RET_ code tells the VM whether a page was found, whether it has been
locked, and potentially other things. This is not quite the way he wanted
it yet, but that's changed in the next patch (which requires changes to
arch code).
This means we no longer set VM_CAN_INVALIDATE in the vma in order to say
that a page is locked which requires filemap_nopage to go away (because we
can no longer remain backward compatible without that flag), but we were
going to do that anyway.
struct fault_data is renamed to struct vm_fault as Linus asked. address
is now a void __user * that we should firmly encourage drivers not to use
without really good reason.
The page is now returned via a page pointer in the vm_fault struct.

Nonlinear mappings are (AFAIKS) simply a virtual memory concept that encodes
the virtual address -> file offset differently from linear mappings.
->populate is a layering violation because the filesystem/pagecache code
should need to know anything about the virtual memory mapping. The hitch here
is that the ->nopage handler didn't pass down enough information (ie. pgoff).
But it is more logical to pass pgoff rather than have the ->nopage function
calculate it itself anyway (because that's a similar layering violation).
Having the populate handler install the pte itself is likewise a nasty thing
to be doing.
This patch introduces a new fault handler that replaces ->nopage and
->populate and (later) ->nopfn. Most of the old mechanism is still in place
so there is a lot of duplication and nice cleanups that can be removed if
everyone switches over.
The rationale for doing this in the first place is that nonlinear mappings are
subject to the pagefault vs invalidate/truncate race too, and it seemed stupid
to duplicate the synchronisation logic rather than just consolidate the two.
After this patch, MAP_NONBLOCK no longer sets up ptes for pages present in
pagecache. Seems like a fringe functionality anyway.
NOPAGE_REFAULT is removed. This should be implemented with ->fault, and no
users have hit mainline yet.

This patch (as933) removes the deprecated dpm_runtime_suspend() and
dpm_runtime_resume() routines from the PM core. The only user of
those routines is the PCMCIA ds driver; local replacements are added.

The mthca driver supports both MSI and MSI-X. However, MSI-X works with
all hardware that the driver handles, and provides a superset of what
MSI does, so there's no point in having code for both. Schedule MSI
support for removal in 2008 to give anyone who actually needs MSI and
who can't use MSI time to speak up.

The arch/ppc tree has been in a semi-nebulous "bug fix only" state for a
few kernel releases now. The patch below officially declares this as of
the 2.6.22 kernel release and schedules arch/ppc for removal in June of
2008.

Despite repeated attempts over the last two and half years, this driver
seems somewhat persistant. Remove its deprecated status as it has existing
users who may not be in a position to migrate their apps to O_DIRECT.
